The Department of Forest Product and Paper Science welcomes a new faculty member and congratulates a faculty member for pursuing MS studies abroad! Glenn Christian P. Acaso started at the Department as Assistant Professor 1 in February 2022. Prior to this, he was a University Research Associate II at the Department of Chemical Engineering, CEAT UPLB and worked on a project on the extraction of phytohormones from waste coconut water. He took his Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering (2015) and in Chemistry (2014) from Ateneo de Manila University, passed his Chemist Licensure Examination in the year 2015, and eventually pursued his MS studies in Chemical Engineering minor in Wood Science and Technology at the University of the Philippines Los Baños under DOST-ERDT Scholarship from 2017-2019. He received the Academic Achievement Awardee from the UPLB Graduate School back in 2019. Currently, Asst. Prof. Acaso handles FPPS 140 (Environmental Pollution in Forest Industries) and FPPS 147 (Furniture and Handicraft Production).  Engr. Kem M. Taghap has been awarded the 2022 Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), under the Research Category and started taking up MS proper under the Division of Forest and Biomaterials Science in the Graduate School of Agriculture at Kyoto University. The scholarship was awarded last April 01, 2022 and the duration for the scholarship is for 2 years. Engr. Taghap has been teaching in the DFPPS since August 2018 as Instructor 4. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering major in Pulp and Paper Technology, cum laude (2018) from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, passed and ranked second in his Chemical Engineer Licensure Examination in the year 2019.
